kulturkbh.dk is not an automatic event feed. It is a hand-picked calendar, built on editorial choices. Here are the principles behind it - in plain language.
kulturkbh.dk was built with one clear premise: good cultural experiences in Copenhagen should not require a large budget. The city is full of events that are free or affordable - but they are scattered across hundreds of websites and social media channels, and many disappear without anyone noticing.
The task is to gather what is relevant in one place. Not everything. The relevant things. That requires choices - and choices require principles.
What is not included as a rule: commercial trade fairs and corporate events without cultural content. Pure sporting events. Private events. Parties and nightlife events without a cultural component.
The boundaries of culture are always open to debate. We use a broad definition: An event is culturally relevant if it gives participants an experience that connects them with art, knowledge, community or storytelling in a meaningful way.
That covers a lot: an art exhibition at Glyptoteket is of course included. But so is a lecture series on food culture at Reffen. And a jazz pavilion in Faelledparken. And a literary morning at the university library. And a watercolour workshop series at La Banchina. And a film screening at Huset-KBH with a discussion afterwards.
Price is an important but not absolute criterion. The starting point is to prioritise free and affordable events - but "affordable" is relative, and we use judgement rather than fixed thresholds.
Always included if culturally relevant.
Free and events up to 150 DKK are included without hesitation if culturally relevant.
Included if the event is exceptionally good or of particular interest.
Included if the event is exceptionally good, hard to find elsewhere, or of particular interest.
The exception applies to paid courses and workshops with educational content. Here we are more flexible, because the price reflects a real professional service.
The site focuses on Copenhagen and its immediate surroundings. In practice: everything within the Ring Road is always included. Frederiksberg, Vesterbro, Norrebro, Osterbro, Valby, Amager - of course.
Places like Dragor, Hvidovre, Lyngby and Hellerup are included if the event is strong enough. Louisiana in Humlebaek is a permanent fixture despite the distance, because it is one of the country's most important cultural institutions and easily accessible by train.
We currently follow over 70 cultural institutions. A source is added when it regularly produces events of interest to kulturkbh.dk's users. Having one good event a year is not enough - we look for venues with ongoing programming and a stable website.
The site is updated manually, typically several times a week. The most active sources are reviewed one to two times per week. Other sources are reviewed at least once a month.
When a new event is added, the date, time and address are verified. The price is noted. The description is read through. Cancelled events are removed on an ongoing basis.

kulturkbh.dk is free for all users. The site is funded through two sources: Google ads and affiliate links to cultural products.
Affiliate links are always marked with context and always appear alongside events, not as hidden content. The choice of which products are highlighted follows the site's editorial line - they must be relevant to the event or topic in question.
None of the cultural institutions featured on the site pay to be included. No events are highlighted in exchange for payment.
